10 Countries Where Americans Can Move in 24 Hours (And Stay Long-Term)

10 Countries Where Americans Can Move in 24 Hours (And Stay Long-Term) without any excessive paperwork. Ready to actually go?

If you needed to leave the United States in the next 24 hours, where would you actually go? Most Americans think their options are limited to countries where it's nearly impossible to stay long-term without a job offer, massive investment, or family connections. But that's not true. In these 10 countries, you can show up with just your US passport, stay for six months to a year, and in some cases, start building toward permanent residency or even citizenship.

Cannabis in Croatia is illegal for recreational use, but decriminalized for small-scale personal possession, resulting in fines rather than jail time. While medical marijuana is legal for specific, severe conditions, recreational cannabis remains prohibited, and public consumption is illegal. CBD products with <0.2% THC are legal.

Key Cannabis Laws in Croatia:

  • Recreational Use & Possession: Considered a misdemeanor (not a criminal offense) for small amounts (usually 1–5 grams). Offenders face fines ranging from €650 to €2,650.

  • Public Consumption: Not allowed. Using cannabis in public spaces can lead to fines, confiscation, and temporary detention.

  • Cultivation & Sale: Growing or selling cannabis is a criminal felony punishable by a minimum of three years in prison.

  • Medical Cannabis: Legalized in 2015 for patients with severe conditions (e.g., cancer, MS) and requires a doctor's prescription.

  • CBD Products: Legal to buy and consume if the THC content is under 0.2%.

Important Notes for Visitors:

  • Foreign nationals are not exempt from these laws; police are active in tourist areas.

  • Driving under the influence of cannabis is a serious offense.

  • Attempting to buy from the black market is risky, as illegal drugs have no quality control.

Cannabis in the Netherlands is technically illegal but decriminalized and regulated through a, "toleration" (gedoogbeleid) policy since 1976. Adults (18+) can buy small amounts (up to 5g) at licensed coffeeshops, though production/supply remains largely illegal. A new pilot program is currently testing fully legal, regulated cultivation and supply in select cities.
